Maintenance management

Our mission

Maintaining tunnels, bridges, and other social infrastructure for the next 100 years.

To ensure the safe use of social infrastructure over the next 100 years, we are working to extend the service life of civil engineering infrastructure.

Much of the social infrastructure built during the period of rapid economic growth is in increasing need of renewal and repair due to aging and other factors. These include railroad and road tunnels, bridges that connect communities, and utility tunnels that contain lifelines such as sewage, electricity, and gas. We contribute to the long-term, safe, and comfortable use of infrastructure through maintenance management projects such as the planning of inspections and repairs for these facilities.

Utilizing cutting-edge technology to meet the challenge of labor shortages.

Labor shortages are proving to be a major challenge in construction industries. In order to overcome this challenge, we are always looking to employ the latest technologies, such as digital transformation. For example, we utilize imaging equipment to conduct tunnel inspections without the need for traffic control, and image analysis diagnostics. Drones are also used for bridge inspections in mountainous areas and other high altitude areas to save labor and reduce costs. We offer a range of maintenance services that utilize these technologies.

Business overview

We service a wide range of civil engineering infrastructure, including tunnels, bridges and sewerage systems

We service and maintain an extensive range of civil engineering infrastructure. We inspect and design plans for the repair of road, rail, and sewerage tunnels, as well as bridges and other above-ground structures.

Surveys and diagnosis using highly specialized know-how and cutting-edge technology

Three-dimensional laser measurement and imaging diagnostics are used to survey tunnels to visualize the degree of deterioration on the tunnel lining. Drones are also used to survey bridges and other high altitude locations, while remote imaging diagnostics via telecommunications allows for highly accurate assessment and diagnosis.

Contributing to longer lasting infrastructure by developing repair and maintenance plans

We develop a detailed repair plan based on the surveyed and diagnosed data. We determine the degree of deterioration and propose work plans for areas that need immediate repair. We can also anticipate the level of deterioration in five or ten years’ time and propose necessary inspections and future repair plans. Based on these, we are able to build a sustainable maintenance cycle through a series of stages that include surveying, diagnosis, and the planning of repair work.

Design of reinforcement measures to ensure durable infrastructure

In rare cases, structural failure such as excessive deformation in tunnels can be seen after they are put into service. In such cases, we leverage our extensive experience and know-how in tunnel design to design effective reinforcement measures. These structural measures help to ensure that our tunnels remain safe for years to come.

Our strengths

Extensive experience in tunnel design and construction.

We are a group of tunnel specialists who have been designing tunnels since the 1960s. As a result, we have accumulated invaluable experience, including the solutions devised by our engineers over many years in the industry. Based on this solid foundation, we provide a range of highly reliable services such as surveying diagnostics.

We are a member of the ID&E Group, a global infrastructure company.

One of our strengths is that we are part of the ID&E Group. The entire group of companies has a proven track record of working on infrastructure around the world, including underground structures. This allows us to provide collaborative services in a variety of areas.

Projects

Road tunnel|Measuring tunnel deformation with inspection vehicles

Overview

Tunnel inspections and assessments are conducted to ensure safe and smooth traffic. The deformities that occur in tunnels vary. By accurately identifying cracks, deformation, water leakage, and other deformation phenomena, we estimate the causes, determine the degree of structural integrity, and select the appropriate countermeasures.

Sewerage facilities|Deformation measurement and lining deformation in adjacent construction (dry season)

Overview

We measure and analyze the impact on underground structures, such as tunnels, of adjacent construction and assess the structural integrity of the lining. We also provide asset management to implement efficient maintenance, repair, and renewal based on the evaluation of performance requirements.

Road bridges|Periodic inspections by bridge inspection vehicles

Overview

Much of our social infrastructure, such as bridges, was built during the period of rapid economic growth, and is now aging. In July 2014, the Road Act was amended, making it mandatory to conduct a close visual inspection once every five years. To ensure the safety of bridges, we conduct accurate diagnosis through periodic inspections and surveys to detect damage at an early stage to help extend the service life of bridges.
