Since our founding in 1964, the year the Tokyo Olympic Games were held, Nippon Civic Consulting Engineers Co., Ltd. has grown into a specialized engineering consulting firm with comprehensive expertise in underground space engineering, particularly in shield tunneling engineering.We have contributed to numerous large-scale infrastructure projects across Japan, including the Tokyo Bay Aqua Line, the Yamate Tunnel of the Metropolitan Expressway, the Yokohama Municipal Subway, and Loop Road No.7 Underground Flood Control Reservoir.We have also contributed to major international infrastructure projects, including the Bosphorus Strait Crossing Road and the Dhaka MRT.

In addition to shield tunneling engineering, we have accumulated extensive engineering expertise in underground construction using a range of methods, including cut-and-cover, NATM, and immersed tunnel construction.We also contribute to the advancement of underground engineering through participation in technical committees and the development of tunnel disaster prevention technologies.As a leader in underground engineering, we are committed to contributing to society through engineering excellence. The word “civic” in our company name means “citizen’s” or “relating to a city or town”. “Civic” is also etymologically linked to civil engineering. This was the idea of one of our employees, who expressed their desire to do work that contributed to the lives of city residents in the civil engineering field. We have been involved in many urban infrastructure projects using shield tunnels, which is our specialty. This is the design of tunnels for infrastructure such as highways, subways, electricity, water and sewage systems, and underground storm water storage facilities.
