Who are Nippon Civic Consulting Engineers?

Purpose

As a leader in tunnel design technology, we help to resolve social issues through our participation in underground construction projects.

Since our establishment in 1964, we have been involved in numerous infrastructure projects. One of our key features is our expertise in a wide variety of tunnel design technologies, including shield tunneling. To date, our technologies have played a key role in a large number of underground construction projects. In particular, the construction of new tunnels under urban areas, where countless infrastructure comes together, requires extremely advanced technology and extensive knowledge. We have devised feasible, optimal solutions for such projects and have delivered results. Leveraging our expertise in tunnel design technology, we will continue to play our role in helping to resolve social issues, such as improving the convenience of underground spaces and creating a country that is resilient in the face of natural disasters.

Strengths

  1. 1. Specialists in tunnel design technology

We have the technology and experience to plan and design tunnels based on in-depth studies of the size, route, depth, structure, and construction methods required to meet social demand.

  2. 2. Extensive experience in tunneling methods, including shield tunneling

Tunneling methods include shield tunneling, in which machines are used to dig underground, open-cut tunneling, in which the ground is excavated from the surface, mountain tunneling, and underwater tunnel construction, where the tunnel is embedded in the sea bed. With extensive knowledge and technical experience, we specialize in all tunnel construction methods.

  3. 3. Experience in a variety of large projects

We have been involved in many large-scale projects in Japan and overseas, including the tunnel for the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line crossing Tokyo Bay and the Ahmed Hamdi Tunnel crossing under the Suez Canal.

  4. 4. We have continued to take on the challenge of complex technologies, always striving to be a leader in our field

The shield tunneling method in Japan was developed as a technology used primarily for the construction of small-diameter sewage systems. We took on the challenge to evolve this technology so that it could be applied to large diameter tunnels, such as roads. Our greatest strength is our engineers, a group of professionals who continue to boldly take on the challenge of complex technologies.
